Diafra Sakho has delivered a timely boost to West Ham by returning to training with Slaven Bilic’s squad.

The Hammers striker has been out of action since back surgery following the Premier League draw at Manchester United in November of last year; a game in which he scored.

Now the Senegal hitman has recovered suitably and after months of fitness rehabilitation he is ready to take the next step, which is to actually feature in some game time.

The match against Hull City in the Premier League will prove far too soon for the attacker. The Hammers go to Humberside to take on Marco Silva’s side desperate to grab a positive result at the KCOM Stadium and move up the league table from their current 12th position.

They go into the game on the back of two draws and three defeats meaning a points tally of just two from 15 available.

Boss Bilic believes in taking things, slowly, though as to avoid Sakho breaking down following such a long period out of action. He said: “He has been out for a long time now, as he had a back operation, which is not an easy or small injury.

“It was a major one, so he has been training very good and active, first with the medical staff and fitness coaches on an individual basis, then he did some training with the Under-23s.

“He is back on a list of fit players for training, but then we have to consider the amount of time that he was out. Hopefully he is going to be back for us very soon, if it continues like this, which is great news for us, but the Hull game comes too early. Hopefully Diafra is going to be back for us very soon, if it continues like this, which is great news for us.”
