ExWHUemployee has claimed that Said Benrahma’s medical issue could still end up being very serious, when speaking on the West Ham Way podcast (Wednesday, October 21st).

The 25-year-old ended up joining the Hammers on a £4 million season-long loan on transfer deadline day. And there is an obligation for the east London club to buy the Algerian permanently next summer for a further £21 million plus £5 million in add-ons (The Guardian).

The Hammers’ deal to sign Benrahma from Brentford went through at the very last minute, however. And it nearly didn’t happen at all because of an issue with the winger’s medical.

There was a problem with the Algeria international’s blood tests, according to the Daily Mail.

And ExWHUemployee suggested that that specific problem could end up being very serious, when speaking on the West Ham Way podcast (Wednesday, October 21st):

“We basically said to them, look we can’t take that risk. We struck a loan deal with an obligation to buy. Unless this situation with the blood develops into something serious, we have to sign him. That’s the only thing that stops this transfer going through. I do know it, but I cant say. It’s a personal thing, very sensitive. It could be very serious.”

Ex then responded when asked by co-host Dave Walker whether the problem could be career ending:

“Yes.”

Let’s hope that it all works out. If what Ex is saying is true, it is understandable why David Sullivan tried to re-negotiate the deal at the last minute.

Hopefully nothing comes of it and Benrahma will enjoy a successful career with West Ham at the London Stadium.

The 25-year-old certainly has the talent. And he is undoubtedly the kind of player who the Hammers fans will absolutely love.

It’s Manchester City at home up next for West Ham. And perhaps the Hammers fans will get their first glimpse of Benrahma in action.

With David Moyes’ track record, however, the Algerian is likely to start the game from the bench.
