What the West Ham owners really think about James Ward-Prowse

It surprised everyone when James Ward-Prowse returned to West Ham United on deadline day a couple of weeks ago.

That’s not to say that the Hammers fans didn’t want him back – the news just came completely out of the blue.

James Ward-Prowse made his first appearance for West Ham since making his return to the London Stadium against Brentford on Saturday.

Hammers head coach Graham Potter was hugely complimentary of the 30-year-old’s performance against the Bees.

Ward-Prowse was introduced to the game as a second-half substitute, and he made an immediate impact for his team.

The former Southampton skipper was forced out of the club by Julen Lopetegui six months ago, and Potter clearly disagrees with that move from the Spaniard.

But what do the club’s hierarchy think about the Ward-Prowse situation?

What West Ham owners really think of James Ward-Prowse

Whatever you think of Ward-Prowse, it was good to get another proven, experienced player through the door in the January window.

We are incredibly short on bodies right now, so he definitely provides some quality competition and cover for Potter.

Let’s not forget his unbelievable ability from set-piece situations as well.

It could be argued that the Hammers should have never allowed the former Southampton midfielder to leave in the first place.

And it seems as though the West Ham owners agree with that notion.

According to The Athletic, there is an acceptance internally amongst the Hammers hierarchy that it was a mistake letting the 30-year-old leave to join Nottingham Forest on loan last summer.

That’s a fair opinion to hold. Personally, I feel like we need more energy, pace, power and ball-carrying ability in the middle of the park.

However, that’s not to say that there isn’t a place for James Ward-Prowse at West Ham.

It will be really interesting to see how he performs under Graham Potter between now and the end of the season.
