What the West Ham United fans sang to the Luton Town supporters about Millwall at the London Stadium was absolutely brilliant to hear.
Millwall are West Ham United’s fiercest rivals, and they have been since the start of the 20th century.
The two teams, then known as Millwall Athletic and Thames Ironworks, first met in 1899. They both originated in the East End of London, and were located less than three miles apart from each other.
The match was historically known as the Dockers derby, as both sets of supporters were predominantly dockers at shipyards on either side of the River Thames.

And over the past 120 odd years, the rivalry between West Ham and Millwall has increased in animosity and ferocity, despite the fact that we’ve only played against each other 16 times since 1947.
Despite the lack of face-offs over the past 77 years, the rivalry between the two sets of fans still burns brightly.
And with that in mind, it really was great to hear what the Hammers fans sung during our clash with Luton Town at the London Stadium…
What the West Ham fans sang to Luton supporters about Millwall
The Hammers fans were in fine voice for our final home game of the season against Luton.
There was a carnival like atmosphere inside the ground during the second-half, as we came from behind to beat the Hatters 3-1.
However, the best part of the day for me was the continual jibes the home fans gave the travelling support.

One of the chants centred around our fiercest rivals…
The West Ham fans sang, ‘Say hello to Millwall, say hello to Millwall, la la la la’.
The Athletic journalist Roshane Thomas highlighted this on his X account as well:
Absolutely brilliant from those inside the London Stadium!
Every single season, I hope that we draw them in one of the cup competitions. It’s been far too long since we faced our fiercest rivals – 12 years in fact.
Every single West Ham fan longs for the day when we meet Millwall again. Hopefully it won’t be too long in the future.
Until then though, we have to enjoy a bit of banter about them with fans of other clubs.
