What David Sullivan really thinks of West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui as pressure mounts after ‘sack talk’

Julen Lopetegui is seemingly under real pressure in his role as West Ham United head coach right now.

West Ham were thumped 5-1 by Liverpool on Wednesday night – a result that really ramped up the pressure on Julen Lopetegui.

Saturday’s clash with Brentford has now been labelled as a ‘must-win game’ for the Hammers, although I would suggest it’s more of a must not lose.

There were a few positives signs up at Anfield in midweek, but the harsh reality is that we lost the game 5-1.

Big improvements are needed against Brentford this weekend, and a win would be a huge boost for everyone involved with the club.

What do the Hammers owners think of Lopetegui’s start to life at the London Stadium though?

What David Sullivan thinks of West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui

The Spaniard is struggling in his role as Hammers head coach right now, there’s no doubt about that.

He is struggling to bed all of his new signings into the team, and as things stand, West Ham lack any kind of clear footballing identity.

But will Lopetegui be given time to turn things around at the London Stadium?

It seems like that will indeed be the case.

Give Me Sport recently claimed that the Spaniard could well be sacked, if indeed the poor results continue.

However, in the here and now, it seems like the Hammers head coach’s job is secure as it can be.

According to a report from The Sun (print edition September 27th, page 59), there is no ‘immediate pressure’ on Lopetegui to turn things around.

However, that may well change over the course of the next month.

Vital four fixtures ahead for Julen Lopetegui

The Hammers face a crucial next five weeks or so.

We have games against Brentford away, Ipswich Town at home, Tottenham Hotspur away and Manchester United at home all to come before the end of October.

Every single West Ham player needs to improve massively, and Lopetegui needs to get them playing as a unit on the pitch.

A lot of hard work will be needed on the training ground over the next few weeks, if the Hammers are to start picking up points.

Should West Ham fail to get six points at least from those four games mentioned above, yet more questions will be asked of Julen Lopetegui.

He may not be under any immediate pressure right now but as we all know, that can change very quickly in football.
