Clearly, West Ham United need to focus on their own job heading into the final day of the Premier League season – but any chaos at relegation rivals Tottenham is clearly most welcome.

Spurs have the advantage of course but West Ham are not without hope. A win for them and a defeat for Spurs would keep the Irons in the Premier League.

With that in mind, anything that even mildly rocks the boat at Spurs is a bonus for the Hammers and that brings us to one Cristian Romero.

Spurs captain set to skip relegation showdown as West Ham watch on

Indeed, according to South American football expert Tim Vickery, the Argentine defender – the captain at Spurs no less – is not currently set to attend their game against Everton on Sunday.

Romero is currently injured but one would usually expect the skipper of any team to watch such a crucial game.

Pretend you’re Nuno – what changes are you making ahead of Leeds? 👀

If anyone says keep the back five, I'll be shocked 😂

However, Romero will reportedly instead attend boyhood club Belgrano’s showdown with River Plate.

Vickery told talkSPORT: “He will be at the final of the Argentine Championship between Belgrano and River Plate.”

Before adding: “Belgrano are Romero’s club. It’s the club where he started, and he’s a fan.

“Belgrano have never won the Argentine Championship, and they are going to River Plate, who have won more than anyone else, so this is historic.”

Whether that has any material impact on Tottenham’s chances against David Moyes and his Everton side is up for debate.

Still, it hardly points to a club all pulling in the same direction ahead of the biggest of days at the bottom end of the Premier League table.

West Ham clearly have many flaws but unity – at least among the players – has rarely been one of them in recent weeks.

Frankly, West Ham need all the help they can get on Sunday and while it may still not be enough, the mood music coming out of Spurs is hardly positive.

Chaos at Tottenham won’t matter if West Ham don’t do their job on Sunday but one would rather it unfolding given the Irons need Roberto De Zerbi’s side to lose.
