One West Ham United player has suggested that it has taken him some time to get up to speed with the David Moyes footballing philosophy.
David Moyes brought numerous exceptional new players to West Ham in the 2023 summer transfer window.
Out of the four new arrivals, some have garnered the headlines more than others but on the whole, it was an incredibly successful window for the Hammers.
With the help of Tim Steidten, Moyes managed to strengthen our squad after Declan Rice’s exit to Arsenal.

There is a fair argument to be made that we’re actually a better all-round team now than we were last season.
Mohammed Kudus, Edson Alvarez, Konstantinos Mavropanos and James Ward-Prowse have all proven to be very good players for us, although the latter has struggled over the past couple of months.
One player has admitted that Moyes’s footballing philosophy has been a challenging one to adjust to…
West Ham summer signing admits David Moyes philosophy was hard to adjust to
The Scot has become well-renowned for setting his team up to be without the ball for 65-70% of the time.
That must be difficult for players coming into the team to get used to, especially those who have played for possession-based sides in the past.

Konstantinos Mavropanos has been a standout performer for West Ham since the turn of the year.
It could actually be argued that he’s been our most consistent player over the past few months.
In fact, he has been so good for us that he’s now being linked with a move to European giants Inter Milan in the summer.
Mavropanos has explained how it took him some time to adjust to Moyes’s style of football, as quoted by WHUFC.com:
“When you join a new Club it sometimes takes a bit of time to get used to the manager’s philosophy and to get to know your teammates on the pitch. But now I feel really good. From my first day here David Moyes has helped me adapt. He’s a great manager and he always does his best for the team, and I’m really happy to have been able to play the last few games in a row for him.”
That really doesn’t surprise me.
Mavropanos played as part of a very high line during his Stuttgart days, so to adjust to playing in a defence that sits extremely deep must have been difficult for him.
However, he has proven to be perfect for us. The Greece international is incredibly strong in the air and he’s very brave in the way that he steps out of our back-line to go and intercept balls being played through our midfield.
Mavropanos now seems to be absolutely ideal for the way in which West Ham boss David Moyes sets up his team.
Let’s hope that he remains with us for many more years still to come.
