Crysencio Summerville entered the West Ham United record books when he converted that Aaron Wan-Bissaka cross at Stamford Bridge, putting Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in dreamland away to Chelsea.
A dream which, thanks to a stirring Chelsea fightback, some inspired Liam Rosenior substitutes and yet more questionable in-game management from Nuno, would end with the most brutal of awakenings.
Crysencio Summerville’s fizzing strike was his fourth in four successive games. A goal which briefly put West Ham United within touching distance of a famous away win against a bitter London rival, and one which secured the winger a place in Hammers history.
How has Summerville proved you WRONG? ⚽ 🇳🇱
Be honest, you didn't see this coming…
Since the legendary Tony Cottee achieved the feat in 1986, only four players had scored in four straight matches in all competitions. Crysencio Summerville would become the fifth, emulating Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio, Jesse Lingard and Diafra Sakho in the process.
Heading to Burnley on Saturday – and one suspects chances to make it five in five will present themselves against Scott Parker’s doomed outfit – Summerville has the chance to end two more long-standing records.
West Ham United’s Crysencio Summerville up for Premier League Player of the Month award

No West Ham player has scored in five consecutive appearances since the aforementioned Jesse Lingard during his iconic loan spell in 2020/21.
Funnily enough, 2021 was also the last year in which the Premier League’s Player of the Month award was claimed by someone from East London.
Lingard, unsurprisingly, picked up the prize during that prolific run of form. Michail Antonio is actually the most recent recipient of the Player of the Month gong, in August 2021. Providing a barely-believable four goals and three assists in just three matches, Antonio would overtake Paolo di Canio as West Ham’s record Premier League marksman in the very same month.
Oh how we pine for those David Moyes days…
Summerville faces battle from Eli Junior Kroupi, Florian Wirtz and Patrick Dorgu
In fact, Antonio is one of only six West Ham players ever to be named the Premier League’s Player of the Month.
Stuart Pearce was the first, back in 2001. Anton Ferninand, Scott Parker and Diafra Sakho were awarded it in 2006, 2011 and 2014, while Antonio also claimed it in July 2020.
Captain Jarrod Bowen has been nominated on multiple occasions, while losing out to David de Gea, James Maddison and Heung-Min Son. Summerville’s competition, meanwhile, is made up of Enzo Fernandez, Patrick Dorgu, Yasin Ayari, Igor Thiago, Harry Wilson, Florian Wirtz and a one-time West Ham target who added to his burgeoning reputation with a stunning effort against Wolves last weekend.
West Ham reportedly agreed to sign Eli Junior Kroupi from FC Lorient a year ago. Bournemouth would snatch the goalscoring sensation from under their noses, though, thanks to their shared ownership linking the Cherries to Les Merlus.
Kroupi has now scored eight goals in 10 Premier League starts under Andoni Iraola.

Fabrizio Romano says West Ham rejected Summerville approaches
Nuno’s number seven cannot match those numbers, but Summerville heads to Burnley ‘on flames’, to borrow Ollie Scarles’ phrasing. From zero goals in 25 games to four in four.
No wonder West Ham were determined to keep the former Leeds star beyond the January window.
“West Ham rejected two approaches from Premier League and Serie A for Crysencio Summerville in January,” Fabrizio Romano writes on his X account, the winger linked with Roma and Tottenham.
“Seen as untouchable for this season and the player was happy to stay and help West Ham, but summer will be different. Expected to be one to watch in June with several clubs keen.”
As for Lingard, a source speaking to Hammers News confirmed on deadline day that West Ham have no plans to re-sign the free-agent as he awaits his new beginning after a spell in Korea.
