West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes has been nominated for the Premier League Young Player of the Season award.
Fernandes has made an immediate impact since joining from Southampton in a £42 million deal last summer.
The Portuguese international has arguably been the Hammers’ standout performer in a difficult 2025/26 campaign.
Fernandes has now earned well-deserved recognition from the Premier League alongside seven other quality players.

Mateus Fernandes shortlisted for Premier League Young Player of the Season
Mateus Fernandes has been shortlisted for the award alongside Rayan Cherki, Lewis Hall, Michael Kayode, Junior Kroupi, Kobbie Mainoo, Nico O’Reilly and Alex Scott.
The following statement accompanied Fernandes’ nomination on the Premier League website: “It has been a difficult season for West Ham United, but the form of skilful Portuguese midfielder Fernandes has been a ray of light for Hammers’ fans.
“The 21-year-old has impressed with his composure in possession, energy in midfield and maturity in a side embroiled in a relegation battle.
“He has six goal involvements, three goals and three assists, including the fastest goal of the season after just 30 seconds against Aston Villa in December.”
Fernandes thoroughly deserves to be recognised as one of the top talents in the Premier League.

Our away record has been woeful this season! 😬
West Ham supporters are already fully aware of his world-class potential, but fans of other clubs may not have been until now.
Unfortunately, Fernandes is unlikely to win the award, with strong competition from Mainoo, Cherki and O’Reilly, in particular.
However, Hammers fans can improve the midfielder’s chances by voting for him on the Premier League website.
Perhaps Fernandes could also win some votes by delivering a match-winning performance against Newcastle on Sunday.
If West Ham are to avoid relegation this season, the 21-year-old’s consistency in the centre of the pitch may be the biggest reason.
