West Ham United will no doubt be hoping that Crysencio Summerville manages to put himself in the shop window during the 2026 World Cup.
Summerville was included in the Netherlands squad for the World Cup without making an appearance at senior level for his country.
On a scale of 1-10, how confident are YOU that Nuno leads us straight back up? 👀
Here's why I think we can learn NOTHING from his time at Wolves 👇
An international debut, however, has since been forthcoming. The West Ham star played in the first half of his country’s defeat to Algeria earlier this week, starting on the right-hand side.
Summerville’s inclusion in the World Cup squad has proven controversial in the Netherlands, and criticism of the player continued following that defeat.
Summerville “too inconsistent” for the Netherlands
Leading Dutch journalist Valentijn Driessen told the Kick Off Podcast: “I didn’t think Summerville played that well either.
Every now and then he has a flash where you think: hey, that’s nice . But I don’t consider him a real Dutch national team player either. He is too inconsistent. I think you should field [Donyell] Malen, [Brian’ Brobbey, and [Cody] Gakpo up front. That is what I would opt for.”
What are you most looking forward to about the 2026/27 Championship season? 👀
New signings? Millwall clashes? Youngsters getting a chance? No VAR? Or something else? ⚒️
That does seem rather harsh. This was Summerville’s very first appearance for his country and not many of his teammates impressed either.
Quite how much that can be drawn from pre-tournament friendlies is up for debate. Players are coming off a long club campaign and it would be natural not to want to risk injuries this close to the World Cup kicking off.

Summerville stats for Netherlands vs Algeria
Operating on the right-hand side of the attack, Summerville certainly didn’t have the very best game of his career.
The winger only had 19 touches, although two of them were in the Algerian box.
Summerville lost the ball once, won only one of his ground duels and was also caught offside.
It should be added, however, that the West Ham star created two chances during his 45 minutes on the pitch, one of which was deemed as a big chance by FotMob’s data.
As far as senior debuts go, it was hardly the stuff of fairytale. Still, context counts and the fact that Summerville didn’t appear to play in his best position is also worth taking into account.
It will be fascinating to see how his World Cup unfolds more here.
