Aaron Wan-Bissaka could make a quick-fire return to the West Ham United team following DR Congo’s exit from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Wan-Bissaka made three appearances for the Leopards at this year’s tournament in Morocco, starting all but one of their games.

The West Ham United star, however, was unable to stop his side, fancied as potential winners before a ball was kicked, heading out at the last-16 stage at the hands of Algeria on Tuesday.

Imagine you are Nuno – How are YOU approaching the FA Cup? 🏆

Rest players for the league? Or go all-out for cup glory?

Lucas Paqueta of West Ham United celebrates scoring his team's first goal during the Emirates FA Cup Third Round match between Aston Villa and West Ham United at Villa Park on January 10, 2025 in Birmingham, England.

West Ham have missed Wan-Bissaka and need all the help they can get from a defensive point of view right now.

While Sunday’s clash against QPR may not be the biggest priority this season, a victory in the FA Cup third round could help lift the mood somewhat.

Ahead of that game, Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed the latest on Wan-Bissaka.

Nuno was asked about the defender during his pre-match press conference.

He confirmed that while the former Manchester United defender was sad about being knocked out of the AFCON, he has taken part in light training.

That could mean he features on Sunday.

When asked about team news ahead of the game, Nuno said: “Aaron Wan-Bissaka was here today. He did a light session and he’s OK. He’s a bit sad, but he’s happy to be back.”

Nuno admits these four could all be leaving West Ham…

What Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s return means for Ollie Scarles

West Ham’s problems go far beyond Ollie Scarles of course but he has struggled at left-back until reasonably recently.

While Scarles has responded to his critics at West Ham in recent games, it’s not hard to imagine Wan-Bissaka coming back into the starting lineup.

With Malick Diouf away at the AFCON with Senegal, perhaps Wan-Bissaka coming back in at right-back and Kyle Walker-Peters moving out to the left is the way to go.

That would be harsh on Scarles but it does not feel out of the question at this stage.

It at least gives Nuno options as he looks to turn things around.
