West Ham United loanee Edson Alvarez has been handed both good and bad news in his latest injury update.
The Fenerbahce midfielder underwent surgery in February after his ankle had troubled him for several months.
There were some concerns Alvarez could miss the rest of the 2025/26 season and potentially the World Cup this summer.
Those worries have been put to bed in the latest report from Turkish media, but he is expected to miss a big derby game.
If Edson Alvarez RETURNED to West Ham this summer, how would you respond? 🇲🇽
And which player would be most worried by his comeback?
Mixed injury update for West Ham loanee Edson Alvarez
Turkish outlet Fanatik has reported that Edson Alvarez has received “good news” in his rehabilitation from his ankle injury.
Alvarez is “continuing his treatment” in the Netherlands and should return to play for Fenerbahce in the coming weeks.
The 28-year-old should then have plenty of opportunities to build match sharpness ahead of the World Cup this summer.
Last chance saloon?
Who would YOU give a fresh start to this summer?
Alvarez is not only one of Mexico’s top players but also the captain, and will be integral to their campaign.
The only bad news is that he is “highly unlikely” to return soon enough to play in Fenerbahce’s derby game against Besiktas.
The two Istanbul rivals will face off in the first match after the March international break, on Sunday, 5 April.
Perhaps Alvarez will return to the Fenerbahce line-up against Kayserispor the following weekend.
