A senior spokesman inside West Ham has responded to claims Konstantinos Mavropanos could be sold this summer.

It may have taken him a little time to establish himself in the side but Konstantinos Mavropanos is proving to be worth the wait for West Ham.

The towering Greek defender has really started to find his feet in the Premier League after a couple of errors blighted promising early displays.

Mavropanos put in another excellent performance in West Ham’s draw with Spurs.

West Ham’s Greek tower of strength linked with shock move away

The 6ft 4in 26-year-old is aggressive in the tackle and has the strength, pace and bravery needed to be a quality centre-back in the Premier League.

He has taken the place of Nayef Aguerd who lacks those traits.

Mavropanos is emerging as a real candidate to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Craig Dawson and James Collins as a cult hero defender for the Hammers.

So fans were dismayed when reports he could leave for Italy this summer reared their head again yesterday.

According to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport (print edition March 22nd, page 8), Serie A champions elect Inter Milan want West Ham star Mavropanos this summer.

Worryingly, it is the latest in a string of persistent rumours linking the former Stuttgart man with a move to Italy after just one season with West Ham.

According to a report from Corriere dello Sport (March 4th, page 5), the big Greek centre-back is also on the radar of Napoli after they failed to sign him last summer.

Good news from top Hammers source on Mavropanos

West Ham won the race to bring Mavropanos to the London Stadium for around £17 million, and he exclusively confirmed his move to Hammers News at the time.

But there’s good news from the Hammers hierarchy today.

Because West Ham insist Mavropanos is not for sale after being linked with a shock move to Italy.

Concerned by the persistent links we spoke to the top source inside the club about the rumours.

And the key Hammers spokesman ruled out a move away.

‘Not for sale’

The source says the Greek international is not for sale and the only chance he could leave would be if – like all players – an extraordinary, earth-shattering offer was received.

The kind of offer financially struggling Italian clubs cannot afford nowadays.

“Mavropanos is not for sale unless an an absolutely extraordinary offer comes in which Italian clubs can’t afford,” the top West Ham source told Hammers News.

So there you have it West Ham fans, you can rest assured the club are determined to keep their new star.

If anything technical director Tim Steidten will be on the hunt to sign a new partner for him this summer.

With Angelo Ogbonna likely in his final season, Nayef Aguerd expected to be sold and Thilo Kehrer on course to make his move to Monaco permanent – the Hammers will need to sign two new centre-backs.
