Nuno Espirito Santo admits Freddie Potts and Konstantinos Mavropanos are ‘recovering’ but he would not confirm if the West Ham United duo will be fit to face AFC Bournemouth on Saturday.

After two successive Premier League wins, against Newcastle and Burnley, West Ham United are hoping to climb out of the relegation zone with a result on the South Coast.

Though Nuno Espirito Santo’s pre-match preparations will not be aided by the doubts surrounding Freddie Potts’ fitness. Potts was forced off with a dead leg in that 3-2 victory over Burnley a fortnight ago.

Centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos may also be facing a race against time if he is to return after three games out with a thigh injury.

“They are recovering. They are recovering, getting better day by day,” Nuno said, albeit without confirming if Potts and Mavropanos will be part of the travelling party. “We still have the [training] session tomorrow to see and evaluate and decide.

“Some [players have picked up knocks]. It is always something we don’t want to open [up about] too much but, after every international break, there is always doubts and things we need to assess.”

There are doubts swirling around Niclas Fullkrug too. Not just with regards to his fitness but also his future. There are contrasting reports about a Bundesliga return for the Germany international. For now, though, he remains a West Ham player.

“The rumours and the noise isn’t really important for us,” Nuno adds. “We are going to need all the players and want all the players involved. Niclas is part of the group. He is working.”
