The EFL Cup thumping of Macclesfield last week offered some of West Ham’s young players an opportunity to impress.
Grady Diangana, Joe Powell and Conor Coventry were all handed full debuts by Manuel Pellegrini. The young trio performed impressively, with Diangana rounding off the night’s scoring with the final two goals of the eight-goal mauling.
The three players are all products of the Hammers academy and have been turning out for Liam Manning’s Under 23 side so far this season.
So when Manning’s team came out for the PL2 trip to Everton last night, some fans jumped to conclusions.
None of the trio were included at all for the game in Southport, which the Hammers ended up losing 2-1.
That got some Hammers very excited that the youngsters are now first-team players and they took to Twitter to express exactly that.
We’ve put together some of the best reaction, which includes some Hammers speculating about the trio’s future first-team involvement…
Love that Diangana was given the opportunity, took it, and has now been promoted to the first team. Hopefully he'll get a further 20 minutes or so against Brighton
