Some West Ham United fans are getting seriously fed up with Andriy Yarmolenko after what they have just seen.
West Ham fans found themselves trying to explain to rival supporters how Yarmolenko does not get in the Hammers side when he was shining on the big stage with Ukraine at the Euros during the summer.
Yarmolenko was an exciting signing when he arrived at West Ham for £17.5 million from Borussia Dortmund back in 2018.
But an achilles injury has blighted his Hammers career.
The attacker has only scored seven Premier League goals in 53 appearances over the last three years.
Not a great record for one of the club’s highest ever earners, who picks up a cool £115,000 per week.
Yarmolenko has been nothing more than a bit-part player under David Moyes.
But when he has been given a chance in the side, he has struggled to really make an impression. And his fitness levels – which in fairness could be attributed to his lack of regular game time – have not been great either.
Some fans have questioned his desire and workrate too.
Indeed Moyes himself was spotted berating Yarmolenko and telling him to work harder when he came on as a substitute in the league defeat to Man United last month (The Boot Room).
But the Yarmolenko West Ham fans see is a stark contrast to the one that stars for Ukraine.
So much so that some Hammers supporters have quipped it must be his twin playing for the national side.
Yarmolenko is already Ukraine’s record appearance holder. And he is soon to be his country’s record goalscorer too.
That’s after he bagged another stunner for Ukraine in their 2-1 win over Finland.
Yarmo scored an absolute beauty from outside the box. Bending a curling effort in from 25 yards out – with his RIGHT FOOT!
It was the West Ham attacker’s 43rd goal in 103 appearances for his country.
And West Ham fans are getting seriously fed up seeing him shine for his country and flop for the Hammers.
In fairness to Yarmolenko, the 31-year-old has probably paid back his transfer fee several times over with THAT winning goal against Chelsea in the 2019/20 season which effectively kept West Ham up.
Staying in the Premier League is worth around £120m in TV money alone per season.
And he is a hugely popular character around the club who – by all accounts – has a great attitude, even asking to play for the Under 23s on occasion to try and keep his fitness up.
But West Ham fans want to see more from him in the claret and blue.
And after his latest Ukraine goal, supporters took to WhatsApp groups, forums and social media to discuss Yarmolenko’s Jekyll and Hyde performances for club and country.
The issue no doubt rankles with Moyes too. Given his lack of forward options, the Scot could do with some contributions from the Ukraine Yarmolenko from time to time.
