West Ham’s 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace had bigger implications on the relegation battle than some may realise.

The result extended the Hammers’ gap to Wolves to 16 points with just five games remaining in the 2025/26 season.

Rob Edwards’ side already knew they were heading for the Championship, but their fate has now been sealed.

Just days later, 19th-placed Burnley could join them as the second team to be relegated from the Premier League.

How West Ham could relegate Burnley this week

West Ham’s point against Crystal Palace moved them up to 33 points, two ahead of Tottenham and 13 ahead of Burnley.

The Clarets now know they cannot afford to lose their next match, or they will join Wolves in the Championship next season.

Unfortunately for Scott Parker’s side, they will host title challengers Manchester City at Turf Moor on Wednesday night.

Burnley will need to hold Pep Guardiola’s in-form team to at least a draw to keep their survival hopes alive.

Jamie Carragher says West Ham need 40 points! Do you agree? 🤔

However, even if they were to draw or win against Man City, West Ham could still relegate them this weekend.

As long as the Hammers match Burnley’s result when they face Everton on Saturday, the Clarets will go down.

This would officially mean that one of West Ham, Tottenham, Nottingham Forest or Leeds will be relegated this season.

However, more realistically, it looks as though it will be a head-to-head battle between London rivals West Ham and Spurs.

The relegation fight will likely go down to the final gameweek, with West Ham playing Leeds and Tottenham hosting Everton.
