West Ham United coach Dmitri Halajko says he is not surprised David Moyes made the bold decision over new star Dan Chesters this week.

West Ham have made a dream start to their Europa League campaign with three wins from three.

As a result the Hammers already have one foot in the last 16, knowing another victory from the remaining three group games will see them win the group.

West Ham’s 3-0 win over Genk was memorable for many reasons. But for new young star Dan Chesters, it was a dream come true.

West Ham are proudly known as the academy of football with Declan Rice and Ben Johnson the latest in a long line of stars to have emerged from the Hammers production line.

And Chesters joined an illustrious list when he made his West Ham debut in the win over Genk.

West Ham fans love seeing young players get a chance in the first team.

And Chesters was given the opportunity by Moyes having shone for West Ham’s Under 23s.

Earlier this week Hammers News reported how former West Ham star and coach Jack Collison rates Chesters highly.

And it seems Moyes agrees, giving the tenacious midfielder his Hammers bow in front of nearly 50,000 fans at the London Stadium.

But the coach who knows Chesters best at West Ham, under 23s boss Halajko, is not surprised Moyes made the bold call, lifting the lid on just why the Scot has been so impressed by him (whufc.com).

“Dan deserves it,” Halajko told whufc.com.

“He’s been in really good form this year.

“His work rate is phenomenal and he’s starting to affect each game more and more.

“He’s such a threat at the moment and I wasn’t surprised that the first-team manager put him on, because that shows how well he’s doing.

“He’s going to continue to get better, and I think the others will continue to get better – hopefully there are more debuts and minutes in the first-team picture for them, because I think there’s some real talent in our team who can make that next step.

“Hopefully, that’ll happen for them soon.”
