A prominent West Ham insider has lifted the lid on the real scale of a new injury sustained by key star Crysencio Summerville.

If there are two players West Ham simply cannot afford injuries to this season it is captain Jarrod Bowen and his fellow jet-heeled winger Crysencio Summerville.

The Hammers have a lack of depth in attacking areas, something Nuno Espirito Santo is determined to address in the January transfer window.

Especially with West Ham fighting hard to retain their Premier League status.

Key to achieving that will be skipper Bowen and flying Dutchman Summerville.

Grave West Ham concern over missing Summerville

With those two in the side, playing Nuno’s counter-attacking style, the Hammers have hope of avoiding the drop.

A leading Nottingham Forest journalist claimed Nuno would make Summerville world class for West Ham after replacing the hapless Graham Potter.

There have already been signs of that.

But everyone at West Ham is wary of Summerville suffering a recurrence of a very serious injury which ended up keeping him out for eight months.

So much so, Summerville had to allay fears he suffered a new injury shortly after Nuno’s arrival at West Ham.

Summerville opted to try and heal and recover naturally from a the serious hamstring injury he suffered in January.

But he broke down when making his comeback and eventually had no choice but to have an operation.

Summerville showed just how important he is to West Ham with a man of the match cameo substitute display in his first game back – the 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest.

He has been key under Nuno so far too.

Nuno was even spotted blasting Summerville in West Ham training, with the Hammers boss knowing full well the winger’s ceiling is so high.

West Ham board confidant reveals extent of new Summerville injury

Hearts have been in mouths again over Summerville in east London.

Because Summerville was a shock absentee as the Hammers drew 2-2 at Bournemouth.

Two brilliantly taken goals from Callum Wilson against his old club gave West Ham a 2-0 half-time lead.

But Summerville’s absence was felt as Luis Guilherme struggled badly in his stead before full-back Kyle Walker-Peters was played in attacking wide left forward role in the second half.

It summed up Nuno’s lack of options.

Now a West Ham board confidant has lifted the lid on the true extent of the new injury to key star Summerville.

When the West Ham team sheet came out, nobody was expecting to see Guilherme starting.

The young Brazilian was drafted in due to Summerville picking up an injury in training over the international break.

Given his serious hamstring injury which kept him out for most of 2025, Hammers supporters are understandably gravely concerned.

Sean Whetstone, a close ally of Hammers chief David Sullivan and vice-chair Karren Brady, has the inside track on Summerville’s injury though.

And it is relatively good news for West Ham.

Major relief over Summerville’s injury

Taking to X, Whetstone has revealed Summerville is injured.

But the Hammers insider says he is only suffering with a ‘minor knock’.

While West Ham did well to get themselves into a 2-0 lead against a massively understrength Bournemouth, it is clear to see the Hammers lack any punch without Summerville.

Bowen becomes the team’s only legitimate attacking threat and therefore easier to mark as the opposition can afford to double team him with no threat from Summerville on the other side.

It remains to be seen whether West Ham can get Summerville back in time for the game against Liverpool next Sunday.
