While Nuno Espirito Santo has brought in a semblance of calm at West Ham, there is plenty not right at the club.

Graham Potter’s appointment was an error and the board corrected that by bringing in Nuno at the end of September.

At the time, West Ham United were in 19th place and they are currently in 18th but are still expected to be relegated from the Premier League.

What are the odds of a Nuno masterclass?

Alphonse Areola, the goalkeeper of West Ham, looks on during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Aston Villa at the London Stadium in Stratford, on December 14, 2025.

Nuno Espirito Santo needs to make major change to avoid the sack

If by February or March the Irons are not out of the relegation zone, the board may decide to bring in a short-term replacement to keep the team up.

Getting relegated will not only have a major financial impact, but it will also see a lot of key players leaving the club.

In order to get promoted again, it would require an it would require an excruciating squad rebuild and, once they return to the Premier League, the club would need to sign many new players capable of keeping them in the top flight.

One thing Nuno needs to start getting his players to do is to hold onto leads, as their failure to capitalise on winning positions will only lead to their downfall.

A lot has been made of Manchester United’s record of not losing a home game when they have been leading at half-time.

It has been 327 games since they have lost a game, while West Ham, on the other hand, are on a zero-game streak.

They led 2-1 at the London Stadium at half-time against Aston Villa at the weekend, only to capitulate in the second half.

Wow… 😲 How would YOU solve this problem at West Ham?

He could be sacked by February if this does not change…

How can Nuno make West Ham better?

Nuno definitely needs to put in more work in training the West Ham players without the ball.

It also requires a change in psychology as there is no confidence in the team to see out games even when they take the lead and are playing well.

While there is progress under the Portuguese, this still remains a “moments” team and they need to start controlling games better.

The next game is against Manchester City and there are no expectations from Nuno to pull off an upset.

However, there needs to be some kind of fight shown from the players and the nudge has to come from the manager.
