West Ham United appear to be closing in on the big money signing of Jhon Duran from Aston Villa.

It was only yesterday when the 20-year-old’s agent admitted that he and his client are in talks with the Hammers.

Now it seems as though Aston Villa attacker Jhon Duran could become a West Ham player imminently.

Duran possesses exceptional pace, is incredibly strong in the air and in duels, and is a very good finisher when present with a goalscoring opportunity.

He is the perfect striker to lead the line for the Hammers as far as I’m concerned, what with his speed and physical attributes.

It might not be too long before we see him in the claret and blue of West Ham, rather than Aston Villa’s…

West Ham agree Jhon Duran fee

This transfer tussle had all the makings of one that will rumble on until deadline day.

However, it appears as though there has been a major breakthrough in proceedings.

A new update has just been provided by someone in the know.

Lopetegui clearly wants to add a top-class striker to his ranks – someone young with huge potential.

The Aston Villa ace certainly fits into that category, and he could be Hammers bound imminently it seems.

Colombian football journalist Pipe Sierra claims that Duran is now close to becoming a West Ham player, after the East London outfit ‘verbally agreed’ a fee near £35 million for the striker with Aston Villa.

If true that’s great news. Lopetegui absolutely has to get a striker in through the door before the start of the new season, so that whoever it is can acclimatise to his footballing philosophy.

The deal worth just under £35 million would make Jhon Duran West Ham United’s fifth most expensive signing of all-time, behind only Lucas Paqueta, Sebastien Haller, Max Kilman and Mohammed Kudus (Transfermarkt).

This is the kind of striker signing I’ve been wanting the Hammers to make for years now.

The Colombian is 20, but already has all of the basic ingredients needed to become a huge star at the very highest level.

If Jhon Duran hones his skills under Lopetegui, he will improve year by year, and West Ham could have a really elite striker on our hands.

Hopefully this one gets wrapped up within the next few days.
