Robbie Keane made a bold shout when speaking on Sky Sports yesterday, comparing one West Ham player to Philippe Coutinho.
The Brazilian joined Barcelona from Liverpool in January 2018 for a whopping £142 million (BBC).
Coutinho has endured a nightmare spell at the Camp Nou, however, and has just joined Aston Villa on loan for the remainder of the season.
Despite his struggles in Catalonia, the 29-year-old is still widely considered to be one of the most technically gifted players on the planet.
Coutinho proved his class on Saturday night when making his debut for Villa after scoring his side’s equaliser against Manchester United, having come on as a second-half substitute.
West Ham have someone equally as gifted as the Barcelona owned ace, however. That’s what one Sky Sports pundit thinks anyway…
Robbie Keane compared ‘unbelievable’ West Ham ace to Philippe Coutinho
The Irishman was in the Sky Sports studio yesterday afternoon working as a pundit for the Hammers’ clash against Leeds United at the London Stadium.
Robbie Keane is clearly a big fan of Philippe Coutinho, in the same way that he is of one Hammer in particular.
When discussing West Ham on Sky Sports before the game, Keane singled out Manuel Lanzini for praise (Sunday January 16th, 1:47pm):
“Lanzini, he kind of reminds me of Coutinho in the way he plays in terms of technique and low centre of gravity. Some of the goals he scores are incredible. He’s really stopped up. He’s got unbelievable technique. When I say Coutinho, I mean quick feet and very, very sharp.”
Lanzini has been in exceptional form for West Ham over the past month or so.
The 28-year-old Argentinian ace has earned his way back into the Hammers starting XI and has firmly reestablished himself as a key player for David Moyes at the London Stadium.
Lanzini has bagged five goals in his last 11 games games for West Ham (Transfermarkt).
He has really stepped up when we needed him after Said Benrahma went off to the Africa Cup of Nations with Algeria.
It really is great to see Manu back to his best having spent so long in the wilderness after suffering a serious ACL injury back in the summer of 2018.
Robbie Keane commenting on Lanzini’s likeness to Philippe Coutinho says all you need to know about the Argentina international’s talent.
Let’s hope that he continue to kick on because West Ham really need the 28-year-old to be firing on all cylinders between now and the end of the season.
