Tony Gale rips into Niclas Fullkrug as ‘shocking’ West Ham signing flops at AC Milan

West Ham United legend Tony Gale ripped into Niclas Fullkrug during Saturday’s 3pm Premier League kick off at home to David Moyes.

While the Hammers bet the farm, and their top-flight status, upon two January signings – Pablo Felipe and Taty Castellanos – their £27 million misfit has seen his Serie A fate sealed after a couple of uneventful months in Italy.

Niclas Fullkrug has scored just once in 16 AC Milan appearances.

Why do you think Niclas Fullkrug failed?

In fact, since joining West Ham United from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2024, a once-potent marksman has found the net just four times in 42 league appearances; a statistic which earned Fullkrug little sympathy from an Upton Park icon.

And no wonder Milan have decided against pursuing a permanent transfer.

Niclas Fullkrug was a ‘waste of money’ at West Ham United

Tony Gale was speaking via Now TV one day before Milan welcome Juventus to the San Siro in what is set to be a tense contest between two sides with Champions League ambitions.

“Shocking,” Gale said when Fullkrug’s name was mentioned. “An absolute waste of money.”

What would you say if West Ham RE-SIGNED Toni Martinez?

The Alaves striker has 9 La Liga goals this season…

Toni Martinez of Deportivo Alaves celebrates after scoring his team's first goal during the LaLiga EA Sports match between Real Madrid CF and Deportivo Alaves at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on April 21, 2026 in Madrid, Spain.

Considering that Castellanos has outscored Fullkrug in a West Ham shirt already – despite playing 12 fewer games for the Londoners – the £27 million spent on the Argentina international is proving a far better use of the club’s resources.

According to Fabrizio Romano, AC Milan have ‘no plans’ to keep Fullkrug beyond the current campaign. That is despite the existence of a £4 million purchase clause in the veteran’s contract.

He remains, therefore, very much West Ham’s problem to solve.
