Tim Steidten isn’t the villain West Ham fans think he is as new information emerges about Hammers star

Tim Steidten’s exit from West Ham United was an acrimonious one in the end.

West Ham appointed Tim Steidten as the director of football back in July 2023.

However, things didn’t work out as planned for the German at the London Stadium.

Tim Steidten recently insisted that West Ham need eight to ten transfer windows in order to successfully rebuild the squad.

That’s a slight exaggeration if you ask me. The truth of the matter is that Steidten made one too many poor signings during his time with the Hammers.

However, he’s clearly not the villain many West Ham fans think he is…

The brilliant thing Tim Steidten did for West Ham’s Niclas Fullkrug

Niclas Fullkrug was brought to the London Stadium from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2024 by Steidten.

However, the striker’s time with the Hammers has been equally as problematic as Steidten’s was.

Niclas Fullkrug has admitted himself that he’s struggled at West Ham, but hopefully things will change for him now.

He must have gone through some really tough times with his Achilles and hamstring injuries.

However, his fellow countryman Steidten helped him through.

According to The Athletic, Steidten was sending messages of support to Fullkrug throughout his recovery from the hamstring injury he sustained back in January:

The long road back to action for Fullkrug involved behind-closed-doors friendlies, rehab in Dubai and messages of support from former technical director Tim Steidten. When he pulled up only 15 minutes into that tie against Villa on January 10, a soberness took hold as the forward was assisted off the pitch by the medical team.

Graham Potter made surprise admission about Tim Steidten

Potter arrived at the London Stadium in early January, and brought his sidekick Kyle Macaulay along with him.

It wasn’t long after Potter’s arrival when Steidten was sent packing.

However, Potter shared a surprising admission about the German, just after he was appointed as the new Hammers head coach:

“It’s important we don’t come in and undo the good work the club has done before we arrived.

“Maybe the club has been scouting a player for six months and has done their research, so it’s important we don’t throw that progress away.”

Considering some of the poor signings made by Tim Steidten for West Ham, that was quite the claim by Potter.

I would prefer it if we went down the route of signing younger players with higher ceilings going forward.
