‘The biggest dread should be’ – Why Tim Steidten is a big problem at West Ham

Tim Steidten joined West Ham United as the club’s new director of football back in the summer of 2023.

However, Tim Steidten has somewhat of a patchy record at West Ham since then.

I’m really not sure where the ‘pearl diver’ moniker came from, because he certainly hasn’t signed any undiscovered gems for us yet!

Somewhat surprisingly, Steidten has been linked with the Arsenal director of football role, but that’s just paper talk in my opinion.

The jury is still very much out on him at the London Stadium right now as far as I’m concerned.

And now, Martin Samuel has taken a cheeky pot-shot at the Hammers director of football, when writing his column for the Times.

Why Tim Steidten is a big problem at West Ham

Some Hammers fans are fiercely supportive of Steidten, whilst others are not happy with his contributions one little bit.

The German oversaw some really poor signings in the summer, as far as I’m concerned, none more so than Niclas Fullkrug and Luis Guilherme.

And now, the Times has suggested that the German is a big problem at the London Stadium:

A lot of rumours have been swirling around West Ham United’s technical director, Tim Steidten. One report spoke of the club fearing an approach from Arsenal to replace Edu, another floated similar interest from Liverpool. The biggest dread should be another transfer window with him in charge.

This is brilliant if you ask me!

I don’t know what Steidten has done at West Ham in order to make him such a respected DOF.

His best signing has been Mohammed Kudus from Ajax, but we all knew he was a special player anyway!

I think the German should have just as many difficult questions to answer as Hammers head coach Julen Lopetegui.

And it will be interesting to see if his job becomes under pressure if we continue to struggle this season.
