West Ham were humiliated by Romanian side Astra Giurgiu back in 2015 and 2016, losing twice in the Europa League qualification rounds.
The Hammers were knocked out of Europe seven years ago by Astra 4-3 on aggregate, and then lost 2-1 over two legs a year later.

The tables have turned massively since those games though.
West Ham have established ourselves as a regular top seven team in the Premier League since David Moyes took over as manager for the second time in December 2019.
Meanwhile, Astra Giurgiu have experienced completely contrasting fortunes. They are now playing in the third tier of Romanian football and are currently rock bottom of the table, having lost their first five games of the season.

West Ham conquerers suffer humiliating defeat
Astra lost 19-0 to top of the table Arsenal Tunari yesterday afternoon.
They were 7-0 down at half-time only to collapse and lose 12-0 in the second-half!
They actually lost their last game 13-0 as well. Wow, times really must be bad for Astra fans.
Now, West Ham haven’t exactly made the best start to the 2022/23 campaign. However, Astra Giurgiu’s start makes us look like world beaters.
What’s happened to Astra since they knocked us out of the Europa League twice really is quite incredible.
Their fall from grace has been as stunning as it has been drastic.
In fairness to them, they lost all of their best players in 2020 and are really struggling financially. Still, their downfall has been quite spectacular nonetheless.
The West Ham fans and David Moyes have their own problems at the moment. The emphasis is on Moyes to turn everything around, especially with the quality of the players he has at his disposal at the moment.
In spite of all of our troubles though, the Hammers fans will surely share a wry smile after seeing our old foes Astra lose 19-0 at the weekend.
