talkSPORT commentator rips into one West Ham player not Tomas Soucek or Michail Antonio – ‘nowhere near PL quality’

There were numerous West Ham United players who were nowhere near the required levels yesterday against Fulham.

However, one West Ham player in particular incurred the wrath of talkSPORT commentator Tom Rennie.

Julen Lopetegui received plenty of criticism from the West Ham fans throughout the game, and rightly so – he got his team selection wrong in so many ways.

Tomas Soucek was hooked at half-time, and many people are asking why Julen Lopetegui started the Czech midfielder for West Ham in the first place?

I feel like the Hammers were extremely lucky to escape Craven Cottage with a point in the end.

Danny Ings’ last-minute equaliser ensured that we didn’t leave west London empty handed. It was a performance that Lopetegui and the players need to learn from very quickly indeed.

And according to Rennie, one West Ham player was particularly poor.

talkSPORT pundit rips into West Ham’s Konstantinos Mavropanos

Konstantinos Mavropanos is hugely frustrating isn’t he.

He has the perfect physique needed to succeed in the Premier League. He’s strong in the air, a really uncompromising tackler and possesses decent pace.

However, his concentration levels aren’t consistently good enough, and his positional awareness is questionable at times.

He was definitely at fault for Fulham’s goal yesterday, when he unacceptably played Emile Smith-Rowe onside.

Tom Rennie, a lead commentator for talkSPORT, took to his official X account yesterday, and ripped into the big Greek defender.

He posted, “Mavrapanos again. Too deep. Doesn’t run back at pace. Doesn’t block the cross. Sorry, but he’s got to go. Nowhere near Premier League quality.“

Whilst Mavropanos was poor against Fulham yesterday, to suggest that he’s nowhere near Premier League quality is a huge over-exaggeration as far as I’m concerned.

Will Konstantinos Mavropanos come good at West Ham?

Let’s face it, the 26-year-old is not the player we all expected him to be, despite the odd glimpse of his quality.

That said, I still believe that there is a top-class player in there somewhere.

He proved during his time with Stuttgart that he’s a very, very good centre-back.

The problem Konstantinos Mavropanos has at West Ham is that Jean-Clair Todibo is sitting there waiting to come into the side.

If the Greece international doesn’t sharpen up quickly, he will bee dropped, there’s no question about that in my opinion.

I’m still backing him to come good for the Hammers though, in spite of what Tom Rennie says.
