Striker claims he joined West Ham because of a gut feeling, he was so, so wrong

Swiss striker Albian Ajeti has suggested that he joined West Ham United back in 2019 because of a gut feeling.

The Hammers paid £8 million to bring the Swiss forward to the London Stadium from FC Basel when Manuel Pellegrini was still in charge in the summer of 2019 (BBC).

After failing to score or register an assist in 12 games for West Ham, David Moyes managed to sell him to Celtic for £5 million just one year later.

Ajeti never hit the ground running with Celtic though, and managed to bag just nine goals in 48 games for the Scottish giants (Transfermarkt).

David Moyes famously didn’t even know who the 25-year-old was when he took charge at the London Stadium two-and-a-half years ago.

The Swiss forward has proven to be just as much of a flop with Celtic as he was with West Ham. He has now been sent on loan to Sturm Graz where he has scored just one goal in four games so far.

But what were the circumstances surrounding his move to the London Stadium in 2019? Ajeti has lifted the lid on what led to him joining the Hammers…

Gut feeling made striker join West Ham

Ajeti has been speaking to reported about his ill-fated move to East London back in 2019.

The 25-year-old highlighted how he had the chance to join Lazio before he moved to the London Stadium just over three years ago, as quoted by Kronen Zeitung:

There were talks (with Lazio). In the end, it was certainly not a decision against Lazio, but my gut feeling advised me to go to West Ham.

That gut feeling obviously turned out to be horribly wrong, unfortunately for Ajeti.

West Ham have really struggled when it comes to strikers over the past decade or so.

So many poor forwards have come and gone. And Swiss striker Ajeti was one of the very worst to have played for West Ham in recent years.

And let’s hope that we never see a forward so poorly ill equipped at the London Stadium again.
