Transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano has posted an image of Alvarez heading for London on a private plane alongside his agents and Hammers technical director Steidten.
And he has revealed a surprising fact about the £33m deal struck between Ajax and the Hammers – that Alvarez is now the most expensive Mexican in the history of football.
“Edson Alvarez, on his way to London — ready to undergo medical tests as new West Ham player,” Romano said.
“Alvarez will become most expensive Mexican player ever.
“Here, Edson flying with agents Nathan and Fulco van Kooperen — and West Ham director Tim Steidten.”
Given some of the great players to have come out of football mad Mexico down the years, that is some fact.
Subject to a successful medical, Alvarez will follow in the footsteps of compatriots Guillermo Franco, Pablo Barrera and Javier Hernandez in signing for West Ham.
