West Ham have been linked with not one, not two but four players from Southampton ahead of the summer window.

Southampton remain on course to be the worst team in Premier League history.

It says everything about how bad West Ham have been that they are just four places above them in the table going into the final run of matches in a dismal season.

In many ways the Hammers are fortunate the likes of the Saints haven’t been any better. Or else they would have been in serious trouble of being relegated themselves.

As a result of terrible campaigns in east London and on the south coast, big rebuilds are on the way this summer.

West Ham want four Saints for their sins

It has been claimed Graham Potter wants four Southampton players as part of his.

Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis, exciting young attacker Tyler Dibling and full-back Kyle Walker-Peters.

Yesterday Hammers News revealed that West Ham have actually agreed terms with Walker-Peters for a free transfer move.

However, there is a problem West Ham must overcome to land Walker-Peters despite reaching agreement over his £75k per week terms.

Several sources are claiming there is a serious interest in Ramsdale.

The news has sparked furious reactions from many Hammers fans.

Ramsdale has been nickname ‘the relegator’ by football fans having been in goal for three different clubs who have dropped out of the Premier League – Sheffield United, Bournemouth and Southampton.

Despite that dismal record, Ramsdale has fetched over £75m in transfer fees in his career so far.

The Times claims West Ham are considering bringing that total to £95m by bringing Ramsdale in as their new number one.

It comes amid doubts over Alphonse Areola and with 40-year-old veteran Lukasz Fabianski out of contract at the end of the season.

Many Hammers fans have been incredulous at the links, asking why the club would add a goalkeeper who has shipped 77 goals – and counting – this season to a side that has regressed badly in the last 16 months.

Now Southampton star Ramsdale has responded to angry West Ham doubters with his actions as a risky decision looms.

With the spotlight on him amid the West Ham links, Ramsdale put in one of his performances of the season against Aston Villa.

The former Arsenal ‘keeper saved not one but two penalties and was the best player on the pitch according to data experts WhoScored.

Ramsdale was rated man of the match with an 8.7/10 score.

It was his third of the season and he is officially Southampton’s third best player this season – although that’s nothing to write home about given how poor they have been.

Despite Ramsdale’s heroics, Saints still lost 3-0.

But his performance may just change a few hearts and minds at West Ham.

There is no doubt the Hammers need a new long-term number one.

Risky Ramsdale decision looms for West Ham

It is claimed signing a new goalkeeper is not necessarily a top priority this summer with other positions seen as more important.

At 26, Ramsdale could fill that void. But he is just as bad with the ball at his feet as Areola and Fabianski.

It’s a big risk at £20m. If a deal can be done at half that price then it may be worth it for West Ham.

Potter has also been credited with a keen interest in Burnley stopper James Trafford.

Now that really would be an ambitious and forward-thinking move from West Ham.

Ramsdale may have answered some of his critics with an outstanding display.

Whether it is enough to convince West Ham’s owners and fans he’s worth a gamble remains to be seen.
