A new Sky Sports revelation will make fans feel better about the imminent Luis Guilherme signing amid some concerns.

West Ham are on the verge of completing their first signing of the summer.

Indeed their first new signing of the Julen Lopetegui era as technical director Tim Steidten closes in on Luis Guilherme.

The young Palmeiras ace is said to be flying to London for his West Ham medical on Monday.

If all goes well then he will join the Hammers in a £25m deal.

The capture of the 18-year-old Brazilian midfield ace marks the start of a major West Ham overhaul.

Guilherme looks like a very exciting player based on some video clips online.

But a couple of weeks ago the vast majority of West Ham fans and most journalists covering the club had never heard of him.

There is of course excitement in West Ham circles about the arrival of Guilherme, a Brazil Under 20 international.

Especially after he was compared to West Ham’s own Mohammed Kudus and even dubbed the ‘new Ronaldinho’ by some experts.

Videos on the likes YouTube show Guilherme is both rapid and skilful.

Legitimate concerns raised over Guilherme

But some have pointed out the clips, more often than not, cut off at the end suggesting Guilherme’s end product needs a lot of work.

Some supporters have raised concerns about bringing such a young boy straight into the Premier League from Brazilian football.

At a reported £25m, there is obviously a certain amount of risk attached to the signing of a young star unproven at the top level.

There is also the elephant in the room which is Guilherme’s statistics.

Guilherme played 19 times in his debut season for Palmeiras last year.

Four of those were starts and 15 off the bench. He registered no assists and no goals in his 566 minutes.

This season he has made just three starts for Palmeiras.

And the incoming West Ham signing has scored one goal and laid on one assist.

So the concerns about spending £25m on a teenager who has just one goal and assist in senior football are understandable.

But a Sky Sports revelation will make fans feel better about Guilherme signing.

Sky Sports claim will make fans feel better about Guilherme

A report overnight reiterates that Guilherme will have a medical this week ahead of a £25m move to the London Stadium.

Supporters who have concerns, though, will be reassured by their claim that the reason Steidten was forced to jet to Brazil to conclude the deal was because a number of Premier League clubs were also interested in signing Guilherme.

There is further reassurance in the form of a new revelation from the world’s leading football data experts too.

WhoScored has revealed that Guilherme has averaged more key passes per game than any other player in the 2024 Brasileirao season.

In Steidten we trust

It is a case of in Steidten we trust until we have reason to doubt his usually impeccable scouting and recruitment.

We must remember that Guilherme isn’t going to be anything close to the finished article at 18 years of age, no matter how good he is.

And if he was West Ham would not be signing him for £25m.

The Hammers are paying for Guilherme’s potential in order to sign him before other clubs get the chance or realise how good he is.

Sky Sports believe several Premier League clubs were seriously interested in West Ham’s imminent first signing of the summer.

That tells you Steidten is not alone in rating his potential highly.

West Ham fans should still go into this move their eyes wide open and not expecting the earth, though.
