It has become clear West Ham desperately need a midfield overhaul this summer and fans think Graham Potter has the answer.
One thing has become abundantly clear about West Ham since Graham Potter’s arrival.
The Hammers sorely lack guile and creativity in their side and it shows.
West Ham were jeered by fans at full-time of the 1-0 defeat to Newcastle.
Despite having nothing to lose, Potter’s approach was cautious and defensive.
His midfield was the biggest problem, though.
Not one player in the middle of the park had the fundamental ability to play on the half-turn.
West Ham’s play was slow, plodding and crab-like.
Sideways and backwards passing left fans bored stiff as they mustered just two shots at goal.
The Irons have actually registered the fewest shots at goal in the Premier League since Potter arrived.
It’s a worrying statistic which suggests big changes are needed this summer.

West Ham sorely lacking midfield guile
Players are going to be sold to raise funds for new arrivals.
There is no doubt technical players who are comfortable on the ball are needed.
West Ham do not have a single midfield player – bar perhaps Lucas Paqueta – who can take a player on and open up a game or play between the lines.
But salivating West Ham fans think Potter will have the new David Silva next season.
Spaniard Silva is one of the greatest players the Premier League has seen.
The diminutive star is often voted Man City’s best to ever do it too.
A player in that mould is exactly what West Ham are missing.
Not for much longer, though.
Salivating West Ham fans think Potter has new Silva next season
Young star George Earthy announced himself to the Premier League with a finely taken goal in David Moyes’ last home game as West Ham boss last May.
Mark Noble has previously revealed Earthy’s determination to make it at West Ham.
Many thought the 20-year-old could be set for his breakthrough season when Julen Lopetegui arrived with promises of giving youth a chance.
That was all lip service and Earthy was sent out on loan to Bristol City.
It was a loan Moyes felt he needed.
Before leaving West Ham, Moyes likened Earthy to Silva. And the Scot said the key to him becoming an established Premier League with the Hammers was building up his strength and power like Silva.
Now Hammers fans are convinced Earthy is ready to step up next season.

Hammers fans rave about Earthy assist
That’s after he produced a brilliant, intricate, Silva-esque piece of play to carve open Sheffield United and set up Bristol City’s late equaliser in a 1-1 draw overnight.
“Oh hey England’s answer to David Silva (George Earthy) strikes again,” one fan said on X after Sky Sports posted the young West Ham star’s cameo.

One supporter was seriously excited by the style and skill on show, adding: “George Earthy with some sexy football there for that goal.”
One supporter thinks Earthy should already be in West Ham’s first team.
“Yeah Moyes was holding him back with the rest of youth he should have been given the youth way more of a path… he’s a baller and needs to be given time to show that.”

“George Earthy class assist,” another said.
A supporter also highlighted the huge importance of Earthy’s assist.
“George Earthy assist love to see it! Also could be a huge point for Bristol City in the hunt for a play off spot.”
Ability-wise, the talented 20-year-old seems to have absolutely everything needed to become a Premier League star back at West Ham.
Especially now Potter is in charge and has made it clear young players will get their chance.
A spell in the Championship seems to be just what he might have needed to toughen up.
Earthy could potentially save Potter millions this summer.
And that will be music to West Ham’s ears given money is going to be seriously tight.
