Said Benrahma was rated Lyon’s worst player in their latest match and it’s very bad news for West Ham.

West Ham face another rebuild this summer which could require as many as 10 players being signed.

The Hammers squad is already four players short as things stand.

They have six players out of contract in the summer and the likes of Lucas Paqueta, Nayef Aguerd and Maxwel Cornet are expected to be sold, to name but three.

A top source very close to West Ham’s owners recently told Hammers News that the club does have money to spend in the summer but would essentially have to raise additional funds to satisfy PSR.

Benrahma is £12.3m West Ham asset – for now

Thilo Kehrer and Said Benrahma are set to add around £22.3m to the kitty if their loan moves are made permanent by Monaco and Lyon respectively.

Kehrer has been performing well for Monaco and has easily achievable clauses which will make his £10 move permanent.

With Benrahma it is slightly different. Lyon have confirmed the total package was £17.4m plus a 10% sell on clause – applied to any future and frankly highly unlikely – profit they make on the 28-year-old winger.

West Ham are guaranteed £5.1m by way of a loan fee. And should Lyon decide to make the move permanent they will pay a further £12.3m.

But that is an option not obligation to buy.

Hammers need Benrahma to impress

So if Benrahma does not perform well and impress, West Ham could have an unhappy player back at the club this summer and £12m less in the transfer kitty.

Many West Ham fans wanted to see Benrahma moved on having grown frustrated with his inconsistency.

Since moving to Lyon on loan, Benrahma has already had a pop at David Moyes and the lack of intensity in training compared to the Ligue 1 club.

Some supporters might take pleasure seeing Benrahma struggle as it proves it was not all on West Ham or Moyes.

But Benrahma was rated the worst player on the pitch for Lyon and it’s very bad news for West Ham.

Lyon played Brest in their latest match and won 4-3 with a dramatic 110th minute penalty.

Hammers loan man Benrahma was not on the pitch for it, though, having been subbed.

4/10 Benrahma rated Lyon’s worst player

Get French Football News dished out their player ratings for both teams after the game.

And Benrahma was given a 4/10 score, the worst of any Lyon player.

In fact it was the joint lowest score of any player on either side.

This may prove a point for a few fans who have consistently stated Benrahma was not good enough for West Ham.

But it is bad news for the club and could be costly as well – to the tune of £12.3m. Because he will be in the last year of his contract in the summer and worth a fraction of that as a result.

West Ham need Benrahma to impress in order to convince Lyon to make his move permanent.

Dropping 4/10 performances is not going to do that.
