Ruben Amorim commits to project as West Ham’s big hope speaks out after sealing the title while the Hammers sink.

Amid all the disappointment and anger of West Ham’s latest thrashing at Chelsea, there remained a glimmer of hope.

Hammers fans have been put through this experience far too many times this season.

There was a clear warning back in pre-season when West Ham were completely popped off the park in a 4-0 to Bayer Leverkusen.

But while supporters comforted themselves by insisting it was “only pre-season”, deep down many knew something wasn’t right.

The traits evident in that game have reared their ugly head far too many times since. The 4-1 at Villa, 5-0 at Fulham, 5-1 at Liverpool, 6-0 at home to Arsenal, 5-2 at Palace and now 5-0 at Chelsea.

Even 3-0 at a woeful Man United and inexplicably conceding four against a threadbare Newcastle to lose having been 3-1 ahead with 20 minutes left come into the same category.

Any doubts David Moyes has come to the end of the road have been well and truly put to bed. That’s 70 goals conceded with Man City still to play. It is the most Moyes has ever shipped in the top flight as a manager and West Ham for that matter.

The Hammers and the manager are a busted flush. They were last season and just about got away with it by staying up with a run of results in the second half of the season.

West Ham and Moyes are a busted flush

The mood around West Ham is grim at the moment. Worsened by increasing reports that Julen Lopetegui will be the man to take over from Moyes.

Hammers fans, on the whole, are completely underwhelmed. They have copied Milan by starting an online petition against Lopetegui’s appointment. Milan listened to their fans and withdrew the contract offer to Lopetegui.

Whether David Sullivan and co follow suit remains to be seen.

They say it’s the hope that kills you when it comes to West Ham.

In the background there has been hope Tim Steidten and Mark Noble can persuade Sullivan to pay Sporting’s £12.8m release clause for Ruben Amorim.

The coveted young manager is the man West Ham fans want to succeed Moyes.

Amorim gave Hammers a glimmer of hope

He has excited and united the fanbase since flying to London for talks two weeks ago today.

But regrettably, like most of West Ham’s dreams – this one as faded and died too.

Because Amorim has committed to a project as West Ham’s big hope speaks out after sealing the title.

Although it was a matter of time anyway, Benfica had to win at Famailicao on Sunday to stop Amorim’s sporting winning the Portuguese title.

But a 2-0 defeat saw Amorim lift his second title in three seasons and fourth trophy as a manager – at just 39 years of age.

He now has three weeks until the Portuguese cup final against Porto. He has achieved everything he probably can with Sporting.

The perfect time for Sullivan and co to push to get a deal done for him to say farewell in that game and join West Ham?

Amorim commits as West Ham’s big hope speaks out

Wishful thinking. Because Amorim has publicly announced he is staying at Sporting.

After sealing the title Amorim spoke out about his future declaring he is staying and wants to win a third title next season.

While West Ham were licking their wounds after the Chelsea humbling, Amorim was reacting to Sporting’s title triumph.

And he guaranteed that he will stay at Sporting, pointing to his contract and making plans for next season.

“Huge happiness, we have to go and celebrate,” Amorim said as reported by CM Journal.

“Stay? There are still more things left… I have a contract and I’m Sporting’s coach. Let’s celebrate today…

“Excited, yes, because it wasn’t the same (as the last one). We had the Covid phase and it wasn’t the same. I saw the Benfica game today. I had a good time, with my players, we were having dinner and everything went well.

“I stay, I have a contract with Sporting. It’s special, the first one was atypical, without crowds and without European competitions. This time we did it, now we can try the third.”
