Report: West Ham make January transfer window £8.5m bid for 23-year-old striker

West Ham have allegedly had a €10 million (£8.5 million) January transfer window bid for New York City FC striker Valentin Castellanos rejected.

That’s according to a report from Tutto Mercato Web who claim that the Hammers have just lodged a second bid for the 23-year-old hitman.

David Moyes is desperate to bring a top-class goalscorer to the London Stadium this month.

West Ham desperately need someone to provide adequate competition and cover for Michail Antonio.

Biggest STAR Your Club Are Trying To SIGN This Month

We are flying high in the Premier League table at the moment and have a genuine chance of finishing inside the top four. In order to do just that though, the Hammers board must back Moyes in the January transfer window.

The addition of a centre-forward is an absolute necessity this month, and it seems as though Moyes is desperate to make that happen…

West Ham make January window bid for MLS star

Tutto Mercato Web claims that the Hammers made a £7 million bid for Valentin Castellanos a couple of weeks ago. That offer was subsequently rejected.

The East London outfit then went back in with an £8.5 million offer for the Argentinian forward and that has been knocked back as well.

New York City FC are believed to be demanding at least $15 million (£11 million) for Castellanos according to ESPN.

So West Ham will need to significantly increase our offer for the South American, if we are to bring him to the London Stadium this month.

The 23-year-old scored 23 goals in 36 games for the MLS side this season (Transfermarkt).

He is technically gifted, is absolutely rapid and is obviously a very good finisher. He’s strong in the air as well and can play anywhere along the front-line.

Castellanos is obviously not proven in the Premier League though. So spending £11 million plus on him would undoubtedly be somewhat of a risk.

David Moyes is well-known for doing his due diligence, however. And if the Scot really wants the Argentinian forward, then we will trust his judgment.

Castellanos clearly has something about him. And if West Ham do sign him this month, it will be a very interesting January addition.
