A ‘really proud’ Alphonse Areola has achieved something in Premier League with West Ham United that he has not done since his days at French giants Paris Saint-Germain.
Much-maligned last season, the former Real Madrid and Villarreal goalkeeper has been a big part of West Ham United’s revival in recent weeks.
Areola was fantastic against Newcastle as Nuno Espirito Santo finally recorded a win at the fifth time of asking. And, while a late blunder offered Burnley a route back in last time out, the experienced Frenchman had more than played his part in a successive Hammers victory.

Alphonse Areola reaches landmark figure for West Ham United
Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek made a 250th West Ham appearance versus Scott Parker’s Clarets. Alphonse Areola, meanwhile, reflects fondly on having reached a century of games both for his club and in the Premier League as a whole.
“It was a really proud moment,” the well-travelled 32-year-old tells the club’s official website. “I’ve been on loan a lot during my career, and the only other moment I reached that number [100] was with Paris Saint-Germain.
“We’ve done lots of good things in the past here at West Ham, and now we have to push to get to that level again. It’s what we are aiming for.
“As a competitor, you just want to be playing in the best competitions, and we are doing everything we can to bring back those special moments for the club.”
Areola played 107 games for PSG between 2012 and 2020. In that time, he had loan spells at Lens, Bastia, Villarreal and Real Madrid before moving to England with Fulham.
