Last time out we discussed what being a West Ham fan means to Pixie.
She reminisced about meeting Geoff Hurst and named Paolo Di Canio as her favourite all-time Hammer.
For part 2 of my exclusive interview with the multi-award winning performer, we delve more into the modern era.
It has been a struggle being a West Ham fan for the past decade or so. It hasn’t always been an easy ride at the London Stadium. Things seem to be looking up since football resumed in June, however.
One of the reasons for that has been the astute signings that David Moyes has made.
And Pixie named one of them when I asked who her favourite current West Ham player is. “Tomas Soucek. He is such a good player, he doesn’t stop working for the team. He is really funny as well and seems like a really nice person.”
Soucek has been an incredible addition to the team. As well as being a superb player, he is also very likeable, and for just £19 million, he has been an absolute steal for the Hammers.
Moyes deserves great credit for having the foresight to bring the Czech ace to West Ham. The Scot has endured heavy criticism from the Hammers fanbase at times, but he is slowly turning things around at the London Stadium.
Pixie Lott’s Moyes verdict
Pixie certainly seems to be a fan. “I think he deserves credit for how he has us playing as a team again”, she says when asked about the Scot. “We seem to be well organised and everyone knows their jobs. We are so much more solid than we were with Pellegrini in charge.”
We couldn’t have summed it up better ourselves. The former Everton and Manchester United boss has undoubtedly made us harder to beat. We are no longer the flakey team that dropped points left right and centre under Pellegrini. And hopefully we continue to evolve under Moyes.
So what can West Ham achieve this season? Would mid-table mediocrity be acceptable? Or should we be aiming higher?
Pixie thinks a top eight finish should be attainable. The 29-year-old singer said, “I think we can finish inside the top eight if we make one or maybe two signings in January. It will come down to how much ambition we have.”
We love the optimism. Let’s hope Pixie is bang on and we do push for a top eight finish this season. We are certainly capable. But in order to do just that, Moyes will surely have to make a couple of strong additions in January. It remains to be seen whether the Scot will be backed in the market, however.
Either way, it is a good time to be a West Ham fan at the moment.
Check out part 3 of my exclusive interview with Pixie tomorrow where the celebrity Hammer names the three players she wished West Ham never sold and her three dream signings!
Pixie is currently working on finishing up her new album. She will also be posting some more shower series on social media for charities throughout the course of this second lockdown, as she did during the first one.
