Opinion: 38-year-old – world’s 26th best manager – would make West Ham unplayable if David Moyes is sacked

If David Moyes is sacked anytime soon, there is one man in particular who I believe the West Ham United owners should appoint.

West Ham manager David Moyes is still under intense pressure in his role at the London Stadium, and rumours suggesting that he could be sacked are refusing to go away.

The Hammers won our last two games though, and those victories undoubtedly alleviated some of the pressure on the 60-year-old Scot.

However, the style of football deployed by Moyes is still a serious bone of contention with the West Ham fans – especially with so many talented players now at his disposal.

The Hammers fans are just growing tired with the football being served up by Moyes on a regular basis, and the likes of Michael Carrick have been linked with replacing the 60-year-old.

I have to say that the West Ham boss deserves a lot more respect than he’s currently getting. He guided us to our first major trophy since 1980 last season, and I will be forever grateful for that.

On the flip-side though, it’s fair to suggest that we need a younger, more progressive manager to come into the club, if we are to make genuine progress on to another level entirely.

And I think that there’s one very obvious candidate for the job at the London Stadium, if the Hammers owners do indeed decide to move Moyes on from the club anytime soon…

One man for the job if David Moyes is sacked

Ruben Amorim would be the perfect man to come into the London Stadium and take the reins from Moyes as far as I’m concerned.

He was ranked as the 26th best manager in the world by Four Four Two at the start of this month. For context, David Moyes was in 36th place on the list.

The Sporting manager deploys a 3-4-3 system that transforms into a 5-2-3 when his team are defending. He likes his side to play a really aggressive high press, and in order to get this to work, his players have to be incredibly fit, physically powerful and highly ‘football intelligent’.

Just take a look at the problems Sporting caused Arsenal in the Europa League last season and you’ll understand the quality of the football that Amorim has his side playing.

The Portuguese has only been managing for six years and has been in charge of Sporting since 2020. Since then, he has transformed the Portuguese giants into one of the most exciting teams to watch in world football.

The 38-year-old guided Sporting to the league title in the 2020/21 season and the League Cup in the same campaign. He also won the same cup competition a year later – a trophy that he guided Braga to in the 2019/20 season.

His team are currently sitting in second place in the Primeira Liga, level on points with league leaders Benfica, having taken 28 points from only 11 games thus far.

The football that Sporting have been playing over the past few years really has been incredibly enthralling to watch, and Amorim seems to be primed to make a jump up to the best league in the world.

If David Moyes is sacked, the 38-year-old would be the perfect replacement for the Scot. Can you imagine what he’d be able to do with the likes of Lucas Paqueta, Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen under his wing? That is one seriously exciting prospect isn’t it!
