West Ham’s 3-1 win over Sunderland took them to within just two points of 17th placed Nottingham Forest.

Nuno Espirito Santo finally got a real tune out of his Hammers players – better late than never, right?

The job is far from done, and the real hard work begins now for the Hammers.

However, there was real positivity inside the London Stadium during the win over Sunderland for the first time in a very long time.

West Ham put in their best performance of the season against Sunderland.

It could actually be argued that it was the Hammers’ best and most complete display for years.

The West Ham fans were absolutely loving what they were watching inside the London Stadium on Saturday.

And Nuno made a comment about the Hammers fans after the game, when speaking to West Ham’s official website.

It was a good performance. In the first half, we started really well.

The momentum, the energy that the boys put in, the connections, the combinations. We scored, we had good spells of football [and were] dominant in terms of defence.

And it was a big improvement in the second half in terms of managing the game, managing the tempo of the game. We didn’t allow too many situations – they scored but didn’t go crazy.

We kept the shape, kept organised. And in the second half, [we drew strength from] the support of the fans, realising that we were in trouble, that we needed energy.

When we give, they give back 1,000 times more. So overall, it was a very good performance.

If West Ham perform like they did against Sunderland for the remainder of the season not only will they avoid relegation, but they should actually be able to push for a top-half finish.

Nuno says it’s ‘starting to click’ as he singles out three West Ham players for praise

Nuno was in fine spirits after the huge win over Sunderland on Saturday.

The Hammers boss insisted that things are ‘starting to click’ now.

Describe this goal in just one word 🔥

I’ll start: ‘rocket’

He said: You can sense that when the players are free and do their actions, things can happen.

You have to take a risk sometimes and I’m pleased, for Matty [that he scored]. I think he did a very good game.

It was a very good game from him and Tomáš in the middle of the park. They really, really worked hard to contain Sunderland and offensively, it pleases me a lot that we’re creating chances, we’re creating combinations.

The players are starting to realise what they need from each other. It’s starting to click.
