Jermain Defoe has delivered a damning verdict on West Ham after three defeats on the bounce sees us at the bottom of the Premier League table staring up.

The Hammers have made a woeful start to our 2022/23 Premier league campaign, having taken 0 points from our opening three outings against Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and Brighton respectively.

David Moyes has a huge task on his hands if he is to turn things around at the London Stadium before it’s too late.

It is definitely too early to panic but with our next three Premier League games coming against Aston Villa, Tottenham and Chelsea, the Scot has to make some big changes if we are to emerge from that period unscathed.

The West Ham team has become stale and it’s clear to see that our playing style and system has been sussed out by every other team in the league.

And it’s obvious that our problems are clear to see for those outside of the club as well…

Jermain Defoe delivers damning West Ham verdict

The ex-Hammer wasn’t impressed at all with what he saw of Moyes’s side against Brighton at the London Stadium on Sunday.

There are clearly big, big problems at the club.

Jermain Defoe criticised the lethargic performance from West Ham, as quoted by Football.London:

“For West Ham, obviously I understand they played on Thursday night, but it was a real lethargic performance. You see in this clip here, Brighton are in a good shape. West Ham have got the ball here, for me he, Coufal, is still too slow. You have two against one on the right side of the pitch, the full-back Coufal has to drop back earlier. You see here the ball comes out to Zouma, can he play to the full-back quicker? Backs out, goes back to the goalkeeper, far too slow, especially being at home. The second clip here, you see Benrahma has got the ball here, three against one, there is nothing on, he ends up crossing into the box, Antonio can’t get into the box and the West Ham players are actually in their own half. It’s a real negative, no energy, lethargic performance by West Ham. I was really disappointed in that performance today.”

He’s certainly not wrong is he.

To be so devoid of energy and commitment this early on in a season is quite simply unacceptable.

That’s on Moyes, his staff and the players.

Jermain Defoe has highlighted a few things that are terribly wrong at West Ham at the moment.

And it’s now up to Moyes and the players to turn things around. Whether they are able to do that remains to be seen, however.
