The relegation battle will take another twist this weekend as West Ham and Tottenham both face difficult fixtures.

West Ham will travel to West London on Saturday to take on Keith Andrews’ overachieving Brentford team.

Meanwhile, Tottenham will have to wait until Sunday night to respond in their away game against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.

Former Premier League striker Darren Bent has now explained why Emery’s side will do West Ham a huge favour.

How will the Premier League table look when it’s all said and done? 🤔

Darren Bent predicts West Ham to extend lead over Tottenham

Hammers supporters might be concerned about Aston Villa’s priorities ahead of their clash with Spurs this weekend.

Villa could have one eye on their Europa League semi-final second leg against Nottingham Forest, which is only four days later.

Moreover, they have nearly guaranteed Champions League qualification by finishing in the top five in the Premier League already.

However, Bent is absolutely convinced Emery will inspire his players to put in a strong performance against Spurs.

Assuming West Ham stay up, would you rather see Arsenal bottle the league or Tottenham go down? 🤔

The Spanish head coach was “livid” after Villa’s 1-0 defeat to Fulham and will not allow another lacklustre display.

“You should’ve seen Unai Emery’s face in the interview room after the Fulham game. He was livid,” Bent said.

“Even though they got beaten by Fulham, they missed four or five gilt-edged chances. If you watched his reactions on the sideline, he was screaming; I was laughing.

“He won’t allow them to drop their levels. He wants to finish in the Champions League spots and win the Europa League.”

Regardless of West Ham’s result against Brentford, Villa beating Tottenham would give them a massive boost.

Bent has even predicted the Hammers to draw on Saturday before Spurs lose on Sunday, extending their gap to three points.

This would put the Hammers in pole position to stay up, which ex-Spurs forward Bent has conceded is likely.

He continued: “I think West Ham will nick a point at Brentford. I think Villa will beat Tottenham… Yeah, I’ll say West Ham stay up.”
