West Ham United legend Tony Cottee has delivered a blunt and emphatic verdict on the departure of David Sullivan and stated what must happen next.

Disgruntled Hammers fans calling for the removal of Karren Brady and David Sullivan got their wish on Saturday.

Brady stepped down with immediate effect when West Ham were in the thick of the battle for Premier League survival.

That came just weeks after the former vice-chair had called for the entire club to pull together to avoid relegation.

Now Sullivan has followed Brady out of the West Ham exit, much to the delight of many fans and legend Tony Cottee.

The fifth leading goalscorer in West Ham history is never shy in voicing his opinion on his beloved boyhood club.

And Cottee has not held back in his assessment of Sullivan’s departure and what he feels must happen next.

“I was delighted to see the news that David Sullivan has stepped down from his role,” Cottee said on X.

“After our relegation, it is important that the club is totally restructured from top to bottom, to enable us to get back to the Premier League.

“It’s been three years wasted since our European and (FA) Youth Cup successes in 2023 and it’s vital that the right people at all levels are appointed going forward.”

Money, time and homegrown talent wasted by West Ham

Cottee makes some salient points.

So much money has been wasted since the Conference League triumph and a succession of terrible decisions on who should manage the club has ultimately resulted in relegation.

What would you say if Sullivan put West Ham up for sale TODAY?

President David Sullivan of West Ham United FC looks on after the UEFA Europa Conference League 2022/23 final match between ACF Fiorentina and West Ham United FC at Eden Arena on June 7, 2023 in Prague, Czech Republic.

While Sullivan and co have signed off on a string of disastrous and costly transfers, just two of the players from the club’s FA Youth Cup winning side are anywhere near the first team.

Meanwhile, the side the Hammers smashed 5-1 in the final, Arsenal, have seen three players from their team that day go on to play big roles in a squad that has been competing for and now won the Premier League title.

It should be no great surprise Cottee is happy to see Sullivan follow Brady out of the Hammers exit.

The former striker has been on bad terms with Sullivan and co since his involvement in a failed takeover bid for West Ham by PAI Capital.

In the wake of the announcement of his departure after 16 years at the helm, Sullivan has clarified whether he could return to the West Ham board in the future.

As well as stepping down as joint-chair, the Hammers have also confirmed Sullivan has resigned as a director of both WH Holding Limited and West Ham United Football Club.
