Several former West Ham United players have expressed their disappointment after the club were relegated from the Premier League.

Sunday saw West Ham officially relegated to the Championship after Tottenham’s win over Everton rendered their final day win over Leeds pointless.

While supporters would no doubt have seen this coming, it is still an absolute scandal that a team of West Ham’s stature have been relegated.

The soul of the club has been lost and former players such as Kurt Zouma are gutted to have seen what has unfolded.

Zouma, Fornals and Lanzini react as West Ham relegated

Just after relegation to the Championship was confirmed, the club posted an official statement on social media platform Instagram

In it, they vowed to fight to win promotion from the Championship at the first time of asking.

Relegation confirmed – where do West Ham go from here?

West Ham United Head Coach Nuno Espírito Santo shows dejection after West Ham United's relegation to the Sky Bet Championship is confirmed following the Premier League match between West Ham United and Leeds United at London Stadium on May 24, 2026 in London, England.

Zouma was joined alongside fellow former West Ham stars Pablo Fornals, Manuel Lanzini and Enner Valencia to express their disappointment.

Former Hammers captain Zouma wrote: “Can’t believe…”

Fornals, Lanzini and Valencia all responded with sad faced emojis, along with former West Ham full-back Emerson Palmieri

Robert Snodgrass, who played for the club between 2017 and 2021, reacted by posting a love heart.

West Ham have been circling the drain for years now, but that should not in any way downplay just what a calamity this relegation is.

It really did not have to happen. All the conditions are, on paper at least, there for this club to be a regular fixture in the top of the Premier League at worst.

Former players are right to be shocked about how things have been allowed to slide since many of them left the club.

Supporters have been let down on every step of the way since that famous night in Prague.
