Graham Potter will be announced as the new West Ham United manager imminently it seems.

Julen Lopetegui will apparently be officially sacked by the West Ham board at some point this morning, and incoming boss Graham Potter has been told that he will be provided with funds to spend in January.

The Hammers formally offered the 49-year-old a contract on Monday night.

It was initially claimed that the two parties weren’t on the same wavelength when it comes to contract length (Guardian).

However, Sky Sports then suggested late on Tuesday night that West Ham were closing in on agreeing terms with Potter.

Lopetegui is clearly gone – he must know that now.

All that remains to be seen is the official sacking of the Spaniard and the subsequent unveiling of the former Chelsea manager.

Julen Lopetegui gone with Graham Potter on the way

The Spaniard’s role is untenable now, that much is clear.

Potter’s philosophy on the game is on another level to Lopetegui’s, and the 49-year-old Englishman will definitely bring an attractive brand of football to the London Stadium.

The West Ham board haven’t handled the ongoing situation very well at all, but when have they ever acted with grace and class?

From a footballing perspective though, they’ve got this one spot on as far as I’m concerned.

Exciting times lie ahead with the 49-year-old in charge at the London Stadium, I’m convinced of it.

The Hammers are finally set to have a young, innovative and progressive thinking manager in charge.

And I believe that if we all stick by Potter, we will see some exceptional things from him and his players from the start of next season onwards.

But when will he actually be officially named as the new Hammers boss?

When Graham Potter will be unveiled at West Ham

The Independent claim that Potter will be unveiled as the new West Ham manager on Thursday, “assuming the remaining negotiations are completed”.

They suggest that Lopetegui will be sacked on Wednesday (today).

Hopefully we will start to make some genuine progress from this point onwards.

Lopetegui was an awful appointment from the start – he was a terrible fit for the Hammers and we all knew it.

The football deployed by the Spaniard has been utterly turgid, and the results equally as bad.

Sacking Julen Lopetegui and replacing him with Graham Potter is 100 per cent the correct decision from the West Ham owners.

I just hope that the fans have the stomach for the big rebuild that lies ahead, and the time it will take for Potter’s ideas to bed in.
