Jarrod Bowen has revealed that West Ham United teammate Max Kilman is impressed by his pace.
In the pantheon of Premier League wide men, Bowen’s pace perhaps isn’t celebrated as much as others.
Indeed, the West Ham United captain – by his own admission – is not the flashiest of players in the division, though he clearly boasts much in the way of quality.
Will Jarrod Bowen make England’s World Cup squad? 🏆
Tell us why in the comments…
There’s little doubt that Bowen is West Ham’s most important player, but part of his charm is that he’s not a traditional superstar.
Bowen’s story is one of hard work, grit and determination (while not diminishing his genuine quality in front of goal), and he reflected upon that while speaking to West Ham United’s official YouTube channel.
Kilman impressed by Bowen’s pace
Bowen was asked which player he dreamed about becoming during the formative years of his career.
He said while in a reflective mood: “I don’t know what I thought I wanted to be. I never thought I’d play professional football, if I’m honest.
“Because there wasn’t the opportunity, there wasn’t the pathway. I didn’t see it.
“Max always says to me that I’ve got like commitment pace. Like, I just put my head down and run. I think that’s just the type of player that I am.
Jarrod Bowen is still West Ham’s BEST finisher! 🎯
But is Nuno getting the most out of him?
“I just work hard. I’m not like a skillful player, I’m not going to get someone off their seat because I’m doing stepovers, that’s not my kind of game.”
The 29-year-old claimed that he never really thought about becoming a professional footballer, both because of a lack of a traditional pathway from Herefordshire and because of his style of play.
He also revealed that Kilman has been impressed by his ability to turn on the speed when he absolutely has to.

Who is West Ham United’s fastest player?
As of only a few weeks ago, defender Jean-Clair Todibo was clocked as West Ham United’s fastest player this season.
The Frenchman was tracked at 35.12 km/h during West Ham’s defeat to Chelsea back in August.
That is slightly surprising, although Adama Traore will surely push him close if and when he gets the opportunity.
The beauty of Bowen’s game is that it’s not all built around speed. This is not a player who will suddenly decline on that front, given he has so much more to his game.
Bowen’s propensity to get to lost causes is what makes him so popular here in east London.
