Jamie Carragher has brilliant advice for Declan Rice amidst strong links with Manchester United

Jamie Carragher has offered some sage advice for West Ham ace Declan Rice amidst intense links with Manchester United.

The 23-year-old Hammers star is one of Manchester United’s priority summer transfer targets after the announcement that Erik ten Hag will be the new manager at Old Trafford.

The Telegraph claim that Ten Hag is keen to prise Rice away from West Ham, although his £150 million price-tag will not be met by Man United.

The England international has been in sensational form for the Hammers over the past three seasons but he seems to have reached a new level entirely under David Moyes this term.

Dec has transformed into a box-to-box midfielder from a deep-lying, defensive one.

Moyes will be desperate to keep him at the London Stadium and Rice has been advised by Jamie Carragher what to do if Man United come knocking in the summer…

Jamie Carragher offers advice to Declan Rice

Considering Manchester United’s weaknesses in the middle of the park, it would be no surprise at all to see them swoop in for Rice in the summer.

Jamie Carragher has strongly advised Dec against a move to Old Trafford though, when writing his regular column for The Daily Telegraph:

“Even those who made an encouraging start have gone backwards. When Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jadon Sancho joined United, there was a sense the club was going in the right direction with young English talent. Now they look terrified to play at Old Trafford. If I was Declan Rice or Jude Bellingham observing their England team-mates’ troubles – unless my motivation was a big payday – I would run a mile if United called. United’s players have been the big financial winners off the pitch in the post-Ferguson era while the team has delivered sub-standard displays on it.”

It’s hard to argue with what Carragher has just said there. He’s absolutely spot on.

Manchester United are an absolute car crash of a club at the moment.

Obviously we would love Declan Rice to remain at West Ham for the rest of his career. In order to do that though, the Hammers owners will have to be prepared to match his ambition by making some top-class signings in the summer transfer window.

Whether they are prepared to do that though, remains to be seen.
