If recently sacked 44-year-old PL boss is really in line for West Ham job, can we just keep David Moyes

If David Moyes is sacked from his role as West Ham United manager in the summer, the board need to make a really ambitious appointment.

David Moyes definitely doesn’t deserve to be sacked right now but the general consensus is that the Scot and West Ham should part ways at the end of the season.

And if the Hammers do go down a new route, the key will be to bring in an upgrade on Moyes, rather than make a backwards or sideways step.

Now, that could entail either appointing an exciting up and coming manager like Arne Slot or Ruben Amorim, or bringing in a huge name like Jose Mourinho.

Even Wolves manager Gary O’Neill would be a viable option for us as far as I’m concerned.

However, there is someone in particular being heavily linked with the Hammers hot-seat, and the sheer thought of him taking over from Moyes makes me shiver with fear…

Underwhelming name linked with West Ham if Moyes is sacked

If the Hammers are to really kick on as a club and consistently challenge for the top four or five places in the Premier League, the appointment of a positive forward thinking manager will be an absolute must.

There is huge potential at West Ham. I genuinely believe that we are a sleeping giant just waiting to be unlocked.

Bringing in someone like Slot or Amorim would undoubtedly take us to another level. However, there is one hugely concerning name being linked with us…

Steve Cooper – recently sacked from his role as Nottingham Forest manager – features highly on David Sullivan’s list of potential replacements for Moyes.

I’m sorry but I just don’t understand this one little bit. Make an upgrade on the Scot, sure. But Cooper, really?

The fact that he is being linked with us is infuriating. I’m not belittling the job that Cooper did at the City Ground – he worked wonders in fairness to him.

However, he clearly has his limitations as a manager. The football that he deployed whilst in charge of the East Midlands outfit was an incredibly dull brand of turgid rubbish on the whole. I can’t imagine the likes of Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus relishing the prospect of playing under the 44-year-old former Forest boss, can you?

I firmly believe that the West Ham board need to make an upgrade in the managerial department if we are to make genuine progress over the next few years.

However, if the owners’ plan is Moyes being sacked and replaced by Cooper, I’d rather just keep the Scot thank you very much.
