Ian Wright says West Ham’s owners have now given relegation rivals Nottingham Forest the edge in the battle for Premier League survival.
The Hammers know victory over Fulham on Wednesday night could see them climb out of the relegation zone and above Nottingham Forest, who face a daunting trip to Man City.
West Ham have played well over the last two months to close the gap to Nottingham Forest from seven to two.
But Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have failed to take full advantage of Forest losing their last two games as they drew 0-0 with Bournemouth and then lost 5-2 at Liverpool.
Wright says West Ham financial gloom will help Forest stay up
Former Hammers striker Ian Wright likes what he has seen of his old club of late and was feeling confident they could stay in the Premier League.
However, Wright says West Ham’s owners have now given Nottingham Forest the survival edge.
Nuno is right – but how worried are YOU about the future? 🤔
On the eve of the defeat to Liverpool, West Ham announced record £104m losses.
That has seen calls for owners David Sullivan and Daniel Kretinsky and vice-chair Karren Brady to leave the London Stadium.
Evangelos Marinakis has been criticised by some for the chaotic way he has run Nottingham Forest this season.

That included the Greek’s very public fallout with and sacking of Nuno despite the Portuguese almost leading Forest into the Champions League last season.
Despite Forest being on their fourth manager of the season, Wright says the financial turmoil surrounding the Hammers has now cast a shadow over the good work the team had done to give themselves hope of staying up.
He thinks the uncertainty caused could derail West Ham’s revival.
And Wright told Premier League Productions’ The Weekend Wrap that he believes Forest will now ‘sneak out’ of danger.
This is shocking! 😰 Relegation is going to be dire for West Ham…
What would YOU do to avoid this mess?
“I think that West Ham have got a little bit of something, I feel like they have,” Wright said.
“But then you look at West Ham, you look at their financial problems, you look at if they do get relegated, then it’s going to be a whole different ballgame because they’ve got problems, even without relegation.
“So I think, you know, when I think about it, I think Forest may sneak out.”
Wright makes a salient point. By delaying the filing of their abysmal accounts, West Ham’s under-fire board have brought negativity to the club at a time when the penny had finally dropped on the pitch.
Nuno’s side must try and block out any talk of finances and focus on what they can control, matters on the pitch.

If West Ham beat Fulham and Nottingham Forest lose at City then Nuno’s side will rise up to 17th with nine games to play.
The Hammers will then be a point behind Spurs and three points behind Leeds, who play Palace and Sunderland respectively.
On paper the Hammers do have difficult fixtures with the likes of Man City, Aston Villa and Arsenal to play in the final 10 games.
But Forest go to Spurs soon and West Ham will know that guarantees at least one, if not both, sides dropping points at a vital stage of the run-in.
Nuno has picked out six games West Ham must win to stay up and Fulham is one of them.
Realistically, the Hammers need to win at least four or five of their final 10 games to survive.
