Mohammed Kudus has been sensational for West Ham since joining us 13 months ago, but he is far from the finished article.
West Ham signed Mohammed Kudus from Ajax for around £38 million back in the summer of 2023, and he has been sensational for us ever since.
Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol recently raved about Mohammed Kudus, describing the West Ham and Ghana ace as his toughest opponent.
That didn’t shock me at all – he must a nightmare to play against and his return of 14 goals and seven assists in 49 games for the Hammers so far really is very impressive.
When watching Kudus play, it appears as though he has everything needed to become one of the very best players in world football.
He’s already right up there, but there is one thing that is stopping him from becoming truly world-class in my opinion.
And a website out in Ghana has seemingly noticed this glaring fault as well…
Why West Ham star Mohammed Kudus isn’t world-class
Kudus is a key player for West Ham, and without him we are a much worse team, we can all agree on that.
However, there is one specific part of his game that he needs to improve as soon as possible.

And a website out in his homeland has absolutely hit the nail on the head
Ghanaian website My Joy Online compiled their player ratings from Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Niger in AFCON qualifying, and gave the 24-year-old former Ajax man a 5/10.
Here’s how they summarised Kudus’s performance:
“Kudus was a constant threat, carrying the ball well through the middle.“
“However, he was guilty of holding onto the ball for too long when quicker decisions were needed. His link-up play was effective, but he should have attempted more long-range shots.”
It was the ‘holding onto the ball for too long’ line that caught my attention. It is a weakness I have noticed from Kudus since he’s been with us.
The Hammers ace has to improve upon that part of his game if he’s to be considered as a truly wold-class player.
Mohammed Kudus needs to watch Lionel Messi videos
The Ghana international could really learn from the man who many consider to be the greatest of all-time – Lionel Messi.
The 37-year-old has a sensational goalscoring record, with 735 goals in 904 club games to his name.
However, his decision making is outstanding, and he has provided some of the best assists we’ve ever seen.
Messi has racked up 355 assists during club games, and that proves just how elite his in-game awareness is.
The mercurial superstar ahas also bagged 109 goals and 55 assists in 187 games for his country.
West Ham star Mohammed Kudus could learn so much from the Argentinian World Cup winner, regarding when to shoot, when to pass and when to simply hold on to the ball.
The 24-year-old Hammers star is an exceptional talent, but he’s not world-class just yet. Maybe he should try to learn from the one of the best there ever has been in order to improve and reach the next level.
