Genoa manager Patrick Vieira’s Maxwel Cornet verdict will leave West Ham fans completely dumbfounded

Maxwel Cornet was absolutely awful for West Ham United, there are no two ways about that.

He is actually theoretically still a West Ham player, and is spending the rest of the season on loan with Genoa, after his failed stint with Southampton.

Maxwel Cornet was horrendous with the Saints, so that proves it wasn’t just an issue caused by the Hammers.

It seems like he’s been given a new lease of life with Genoa though, after he joined Patrick Vieira’s side on loan in the January transfer window.

The fact that he’s even scored a goal for them already raised some eyebrows at the London Stadium.

That goes to show just how poor he was for us doesn’t it!

And now, the Hammers fans will be even more shocked after Vieira spoke out about the former Burnley and Lyon winger.

Vieira’s Maxwel Cornet verdict will leave West Ham fans shocked

The 28-year-old has already bagged one goal and one assist in just three games for Genoa.

That’s as many as he managed in the entire 2023/24 season with the Hammers.

The majority of West Ham fans have completely written Cornet off, and most of us don’t expect to see him in a Hammers shirt again.

With that in mind, Vieira’s verdict on Cornet will really surprise the West Ham fans.

The Genoa boss raved about the Ivory Coast international after his goal at the weekend, as quoted by All Football:

“He brought quality and energy. We have things we need to work on but he’s a quality player.”

The Hammers fans will be utterly shocked by that 18-word verdict from Vieira.

Where was that ‘quality and energy’ during his time at the London Stadium?

Cornet’s injury back in October 2022 certainly didn’t help matters. The 28-year-old missed five months of action, and he was never the same player when he returned.

Before he joined us, he was exceptional for Lyon and Burnley. The Ivorian’s explosive pace made him incredibly difficult to defend against.

However, we didn’t see that explosiveness once from Maxwel Cornet during his time with West Ham.

Perhaps the pace of Serie A football is more suited to him than the Premier League is, who knows?

One thing’s for sure, Patrick Vieira’s verdict on the winger will have left the West Ham fans absolutely dumbfounded.
